THE CHALLENGE
Construction would impact residents and business along an 8-mile stretch in San Bernardino as the road would be widened. Impacts included safety concerns, access to businesses, reduced lanes through Downtown San Bernardino and the retail and commercial hub of the city on Hospitality Lane, and noise, vibration and dust.
THE RESULTS
Westbound worked collaboratively with project partners (cities and SBCTA) to manage public expectations and mitigate issues. Overall activities included extensive community engagement for the controversial project, presentations to the community and project partners (including the Federal Transit Authority), crisis management, special events, development of collateral materials, social media, a public safety campaign prior to launch of service, and more.
